Sri Aurobindo Medical College & PG Institute (SAIMS), Indore marked a significant milestone in strengthening specialised medico-legal healthcare services with the inauguration of its Forensic Medicine & Toxicology (FMT) Outpatient Department (OPD) on 22 September 2026.
The FMT OPD was formally inaugurated by Dr. Poornima Dey Sarkar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Sri Aurobindo University, in the presence of senior faculty members, department heads, consultants, faculty members and postgraduate students. The initiative reflects SAIMS’ continued commitment to integrating clinical expertise with medical ethics, scientific knowledge and professional responsibility.
Established under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Vinod Bhandari, Founder Chairman, SAIMS, and Dr. Manjushree Bhandari, Chancellor, Sri Aurobindo University, the FMT OPD is designed to provide specialised consultation and expert guidance in areas where medicine and law intersect.
The newly established OPD will offer services in Medical Jurisprudence and Medical Ethics, Medico-Legal Consultation, Specialised Toxicology Consultation, as well as expert guidance in poisoning-related cases. These services will help strengthen access to specialised expertise while supporting healthcare professionals in addressing complex medico-legal and toxicological situations.
The FMT OPD will also serve as an important academic and professional platform for postgraduate students, enabling them to gain greater exposure to the practical application of forensic medicine, toxicology, medical ethics and medico-legal principles.
The inauguration marks an important step in SAIMS’ broader vision of advancing ethical medical practice, scientific excellence, specialised healthcare and community service.
